Purpose of Role

The High School Psychology Department Coordinator is responsible for leading, developing, and overseeing the academic, pedagogical, and operational functioning of the Psychology Department at the high school level. The role ensures academic excellence, curriculum alignment, teacher support, and the promotion of students’ critical thinking, socio-emotional understanding, and ethical awareness within the discipline of Psychology.

The Coordinator works collaboratively with school leadership, faculty members, and other departments to maintain high academic standards and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

ISP Academic Coordinator Key Responsibilities

  • Academic Leadership
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Psychology curriculum in alignment with institutional standards and educational frameworks.
  • Ensure vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment across grade levels.
  • Monitor lesson planning, instructional quality, and assessment practices within the department.
  • Promote innovative and evidence-based teaching methodologies.
  • Teacher Supervision and Support
  • Supervise and support Psychology teachers through regular observations and feedback.
  • Facilitate departmental meetings and collaborative planning sessions.
  • Identify professional development needs and coordinate training opportunities.
  • Support teachers in classroom management, assessment strategies, and student engagement.
  • Student Achievement and Wellbeing
  • Monitor student academic performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Promote critical thinking, research skills, and ethical reasoning in Psychology courses.
  • Support intervention plans for students requiring academic support.
  • Collaborate with counseling and pastoral teams when appropriate.
  • Planning and Administration
  • Develop and manage the department’s annual action plan.
  • Participate in academic committees and school-wide initiatives.
  • Support scheduling, resource allocation, and budget planning for the department.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies and academic regulations.
  • Assessment and Quality Assurance
  • Oversee the design and implementation of formative and summative assessments.
  • Analyze academic data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Ensure consistency and fairness in grading practices.
  • Prepare documentation required for audits, inspections, or accreditation processes.
  • Communication and Collaboration
  • Maintain effective communication with school leadership and faculty.
  • Communicate with parents when necessary regarding academic matters.
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration with other subject areas.
  • Represent the department in academic forums or institutional meetings.

  Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety policies, and institutional procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (required).
  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Education, or related field (preferred).
  • Teaching certification or educational credential (required, depending on local regulations).
  • Formal training in curriculum design and assessment (desirable).

Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of teaching experience in Psychology at the high school level.
  • Previous experience in academic coordination or leadership roles (preferred).
  • Experience in curriculum planning and academic program development.
  • Experience working in secondary education settings.
  • Experience preparing documentation for accreditation or quality assurance processes (desirable).
